Trimming trees and shrubs

As fall Marches on we are getting closer to the proper time to start  trimming your trees and shrubs.

As a matter of fact for some shrubs that time is  already here. Now you don’t want to just go out there and start hacking away. There are proper techniques to use when trimming. Knowing which limbs to cut and which limbs not to cut is very important to the overall health of a tree.

And and honestly that varies greatly depending on the type of tree. There are a few golden rules that apply to 90% of your trees out there. One of those is crossing limbs. You don’t want to have any limb growth that will allow limbs to cross each other coming in contact rubbing or possibly growing into each other. This opens up wounds in the tree and it’s just asking for disease and insects to invade.

I see a lot of trees that getting major hardtop. Crepe myrtles are probably one of the most common. This absolutely is not the proper way to trim a tree. A lot of times this is caused by poor decision-making at the initial time of planting. When choosing trees for a location it is important to take in factors like how big will the tree be in 15 years. Will the root system cause a problem with my Foundation.
